This time on our Developer Spotlight we want to introduce you all to our very skilled Concept Art Director on Nightingale. He has been in the industry for nearly 17 years and has worked on a multitude of projects. Here is, Steve Klit!
Q: What is your name and job title?
A: Steve - Concept Art Director
Q: When did you join Inflexion Games?
A: Summer of 2019
Q: What was your background before Inflexion?
A: I was a Senior Concept Artist at Bioware/EA
Q: Tell us what you do on Nightingale?
A: I create and direct the Concept Art, while managing the team
Q: What excites you most about working on Nightingale?
A: The Gaslamp Fantasy setting. As our game evolves we will be releasing massive amounts of new content. This means the concept team is always creating something fresh for our seemingly endless world.
Q: Can you give an example of something you’ve contributed to Nightingale that you’re most proud of?
A: Our mysterious friend "Puck" was really fun to create. The character turned out awesome in-game and was very close to the original Concept Art.
Q: What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your role working on Nightingale?
A: I have struggled with the influence that "AI Art" has had on our industry over the past year. A lot of mixed feelings about the role it will play in concept art in the future. How best to navigate it's use ethically and creatively.
Q: What are you going to be working on in the coming weeks/months for the game?
A: A surprising NPC character, environment POI's, and a few new creepy crawly creatures.
Q: Tell us an interesting experience you’ve had whilst playing the game.
A: Early in the project during a performance playtest we turned on the creature hose and spawned a "World War Z" amount of "Bound" enemies. Hundreds of them were frantically attacking all at once. It was hilarious and terrifying.
Q: What was the last game you played?
A: "It takes two"
Q: You're lost in the mystical Fae Realms...what's the one thing that's likely to kill you first?
A: Definitely a Harpy "shudder"...
Q: What is the one thing that you need to survive being lost in the Fae Realms?
A: Hope, of course.
